What’s going on with Walter?

Well I barely write in my blog anymore and that’s mainly because of Twitter which can be found on the left hand side of this page. I think I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, it’s just so much easy writing a quick sentence or two on what your doing or what’s going on with your life.

Anyway, I have some goodies coming in for me this weekend and I’m very excited. First, I have 2 eMac’s coming in, I first bought a 700MHz G4 and then later found a 1.42GHz for a pretty good deal so I went with that one instead and tried to cancel the other. That didn’t work out too well. I’m just going to throw the 700MHz one back on ebay. It’s the all white version of the ever so popular colored iMac’s that were aimed at the educational market (hence the “e”). I basically wanted a cheap machine that I can fully dedicate to BSD flavors of UNIX. I’m most likely going to run OpenBSD so I can further my skills which brings me to my other goodies. My good friend Kyle is hooking me up with a few OBSD CDs as well as a few cables to get my little network rack running at home.

Should be a pretty sweet combo.

I always have this de-lima about which OS to run full time and I think having the eMac right next to my MBP on the same desk running OBSD will solve this. I always feel that I should sell my MBP for a cheaper Thinkpad and run BSD / Linux because OS X isn’t “UNIX” enough and why run anything else on a Mac (yeah, I’m weird). OS X is a fantastic OS that is a fully certified UNIX OS right up there along with AIX and Solaris so I don’t plan on getting rid of my MBP os OS X any time soon.

I think that’s enough ranting for now. I will try and post some pictures of my progress when everything arrives.
