Waking up with China Green Tips
So like I’ve stated in my previous post I most likely won’t be updating my “full” blog nearly as much as I do my twitter. I figured I have a little time before I start my day (although it’s already 1 PM) to write a little. So let’s see what we have here…
School
The summer semesters are finally over. I really only took one semester because one of the classes ( Cisco Network Support) overlapped with the other semester. This meant that the other class I was registered for was cancelled and I only ended up receiving 9 credits for the whole summer instead of 12 that I was shooting for. The up side however is that I received an A in both Windows 2003 Server and Cisco Network Support. Yeah, they still teach 03 Server and even my professor stated that this classes are not “Network Engineering” material which I completely agree with.
I have a good 3 weeks off now until the Fall semester starts which I’m hoping is my last. I registered for two classes, UNIX Operating Systems and Programming for the Web, both of which are not apart of my degree, I had to get them substituted because they NEVER offer the classes that I actually need. Anyway, that’s a completely different story and I’m just hoping these last 6 credits are all I need to graduate. Programming for the Web should be pretty fun because it involves PHP, Javascript, and MySQL. Maybe that will get me back in the mood to finish the project I started about two months ago. So, what all this means is that I still have another four months of school left and four months of my horrible retail job in the mall.
Tech Toys
Anyone who really knows me knows that I go through Computers / Laptops like water. I actually have a list somewhere on one of my many blogs showing how many laptops I’ve been through over the past 3-4 years which I think was up to 12 or 15. Well my latest setup was the Dell Vostro 400 Quad Core desktop with dual 20” LCDs and the Eee 900 for mobile hackage. It wasn’t a bad setup but what frustrated me the most was the keyboard on the Eee. I thought I was going to get used to it but NO! Not only was I typing different letters, but it wouldn’t recognize some of the keys that I did press. This resulted in me taking about 15 minutes just to write one sentence or typing out a command. I thought well why not just sell the 900 and pick up one of the newer NetBooks hitting the market that have a slightly bigger keyboard.
Well another side to the story is that I “switched” (although I would like to say I finally gave it a try) to Mac in mid 2007 when they released the nVidia MacBook Pros and I completely fell in love. I mean all that power in a slick 1” thin aluminum case with a backlit keyboard. Come on on now, you can’t say it’s not the best looking notebook out there. My whole reason for ditching the MBP and going with the desktop / netbook route was to save money and to get my hands dirty again with Linux and various other Open Source Operating Systems. After really thinking about it and knowing that OSX is essentially UNIX and built off of one of the best out there, FreeBSD (which was also the deciding factor of going with Apple in the beginning), I realized it’s stupid to run any other OS as my full featured desktop OS.
What does all this mean? YES, I’m going back to Mac for the third time. I’ve sold my desktop, Eee 900, and now my iPhone believe it or not. I got $1100 for the two machines and hoping to get around $400 - $500 for the iPhone putting me at $1500 or so for the MBP savings. Apple is supposed to update the line soon and that’s exactly what I’m waiting for. I just hope they do it soon and while I’m still in school so I can use my educational discount and grab one for $1800. Yes, I’m insane when it comes to computers.
How come I end up where I stared? How come I end up where I went wrong?
So as of right now I’m computerless. I’m currently typing this on my Fiancee’s G4 iBook that definitely isn’t the fastest thing in the world but gets the job done. That’s all for now. Time to go cut the lawn and get ready for a half day at work.
